Breaking news! Fire outbreak razes down houses, cars in Onitsha. (Graphic photos, videos)

A severe fire outbreak, one of the worst ever recorded in Onitsha metropolis occurred this evening.

The unfortunate incident happened at the Mobil filling station opp Dennis memorial grammar school Onitsha, when a tanker fully loaded with fuel during an attempt to reverse into the filling station fell and gutted fire, razing down every thing in its part. Gov. Willie Obiano commissions the largest poultry project in south east (photos)

On the 10th of February, 2017, Gov Willie Obiano commissioned the largest poultry project in the south east. This was made known by the commissioner of economic planning and budget development, Mark okoye II on his official Facebook page he wrote: "Yesterday, Gov. Obiano commissioned the largest poultry project in south eastern Nigeria. The project is located on a 75 hectare farm in Igbariam. This was one of the first agriculture projects facilitated by Anambra State Investment Promotion & Protection Agency where I served as the pioneer Executive Director and Sec. to the Governing Council. 

The first phase of the project has the capacity to farm 350,000 birds every 6 weeks and 30,000 eggs a week. ANSG contributed land to this partnership in exchange for equity in the project while funds were provided by a consortium of investors from Anambra led by Chief Clem Nwobu. 
In 2 years, the target is to achieve self sufficiency in poultry production thereby reducing our dependence on Oyo state for eggs and frozen chicken.

A Banker Faces the Law for Diverting Customer's Money to His Girlfriend's Account.

Afolabi Sanusi, a Lagos Banker, has been arraigned before an Ikeja magistrate’s court for diverting a customer’s money to his girlfriend’s account.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momoh, the suspect who is facing a 3-count charge of of breach of the peace, diversion of fund and stealing, diverted N967,000, belonging to a customer on January 18, at Ojuwoye, Mushin, Lagos, and also issued him forged stamped tellers.
She said; “The accused presented false stamped deposit slips to customers after receiving money from them and pretended that the slips were genuinely issued.

“During investigation, it was discovered that the accused had been transferring and crediting the account of a customer, who was later discovered to be his girlfriend.
“The lady was called and she confirmed that the accused used to credit her account”

The accused who pleaded not guilty was granted N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, as the magistrate, Mr. M. K. O. Fadeyin, adjourned the case till March 8.

Okada Rider Killed by Passenger Over N50 Disagreement.

On February 2, 2017, an unfortunate murder took place in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State after a 40-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Michael Eze, was killed by a passenger Michael Gabriel after a disagreement over N50.

According to Punch Metro, the incident happened around 9pm on February 2, 2017, after the Okada rider demanded extra N50 to  their agreed fare due to the length of the journey.

Gabriel, in a fit of anger, allegedly hit the victim with an iron rod in the head, which made him to collapse. He was rushed to a private hospital in the community where he was confirmed dead. Policemen from the state command arrested the suspect.

Speaking to PUNCH correspondent, a resident who did not want to be identified, said Gabriel was close to his house when the incident happened.

He said;

“When the rider saw that the house was farther than what Garbiel described to him, he insisted that N50 must be added to the fare they agreed on. That was what led to the disagreement.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Amaraizu Ebere, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had yet to establish the cause of the disagreement as investigation is still ongoing.

He said;

“The suspect is helping operatives of the command in their investigations.”

Abomination: Man kill girlfriend then sleeps with her corpse.

Sunday Ushie, A 35-year-old-man, on Monday confessed to killing his purported ‘girlfriend’, identified as Nnena Samuel, and went ahead to sleep with her dead body.

The incident happened on January 26, 2017 in Adijinkpor village in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Sunday Ushie, who was a cocoa farmer in Akparabong, confessed to the crime, saying that she never gave him the opportunity to have sex with her while alive.

He said that he invited her to his house and killed her with knife before sleeping with her dead body.

He said, “It is the work of the devil. I do not know how. I am the one that killed her. I killed her with knife. She was my girlfriend and I knew her for just two months before this incident happened. I slept with her corpse after killing her.

“It was strange sleeping with a dead corpse. I never had sex with her when she was alive because she never gave me that opportunity. I was always giving her money but she didn’t allow us to have sex.”

It was reported that the suspect had invited the deceased mother-of-two out in the night of January 26 and took her to his apartment. He was said to have killed the woman when she refused to allow him have sex with her.

The acting Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, who paraded the suspect alongside other criminals, said it was the landlord of the deceased that informed the police that his tenant had been brutally murdered.

He said, “This happened on January 27, 2017 at about 10.55 hours, following a report at the Ikom Divisional Police headquarters from one Cletus Etta of Adijinkpor village that his tenant was brutally murdered.

“Her right hand and left leg and mouth were severed by the suspect. The children of the deceased, Hezekiah (11) and Ezekiel (9) confirmed to the police that their mother was invited out by the suspect on the night of January 26 but did not return home.

“The suspect has been arrested in connection to the crime and he confessed that he killed the woman before having carnal knowledge of her. Investigation is ongoing and after which he will be charged to court for murder.”

Corruption is the reason behind Nigeria's recession – EFCC Boss, Magu

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has identified corruption as the reason behind Nigeria’s recession.

He said the current economic situation of the country was why the federal government was paying a lot of attention to the recovery of stolen funds.

    “I maintain that the economic recession is caused by corruption,” Magu told Arise TV.

    “About 90 per cent of the cause of recession is corruption, because there was fund and people stole the funds and kept them where they cannot be reached.
    “If we can lay hands on this hidden wealth, we won’t stay for more than three months in this recession. It is sufficient for us to get out of economic recession”, he added.
Magu advised those still holding looted money to voluntarily return such.

    “I think they should just come out and approach the government and say, ‘this is what I have.’ Our emphasis now is on the recovery of the looted fund. People should come out and give us full disclosure, we would go after it”, he added.

On possible amnesty for looters, he said, “I’m not sure of that. But we encourage recovery if you can voluntarily bring out this thing, disclose this thing. It is the government that would decide. We encourage people to come out and disclose the looted funds.

    “They should cooperate with the government. They should come forward and declare what they have looted and the government will take its decision.

    “Everybody must join in the fight against corruption. It’s very necessary for the future of this country, for a better tomorrow.”

DSS BRUTALITY: Teachers brutalised as Men of the DSS invade FGGC Calabar.

 Management, teachers and students of Federal Girls’ College Calabar on Thursday, Febraury 2, 2017 witnessed an unusual scenario, when a team of gun tottering officers and men of the State Security Service (DSS) forced themselves through school gate and mercilessly beat up every male teacher in sight.

It was gathered that an operative of the secret police identified as, Grace Loveth Asuquo had driven to the school with a team of fierce looking and gun tottering DSS officers who mindlessly brutalised all male teachers they could lay hands on and even the female teachers who dared to come closer or to question their action, after her daughter, Loveth Asuquo had called her and reported that she was beaten by a Civic Education Teacher, Mr. Owai Owai, who is a member of the school’s Disciplinary Committee.

It was gathered that the SS3 F students had coerced some JSS students to sweep their class when those students were already assigned to a different task and when Mr. Owai came by and asked the SS3 students why the JSS students were sweeping their class, they arrogantly refused to answer his question.

Our source say “it was at this point that Mr. Owai asked all the students to kneel down and when they refused to do so, he now flogged each of the students two strokes of the cane, but the SS3F ring leader, Miss Loveth Asuquo took serious offence and grasp the teacher, Mr. Owai by his shirt collar, thereby provoking him to flog her with more strokes of the cane.”

This according to our source resulted in Loveth Asuquo calling her mother, Grace Loveth Asuquo who came with other DSS colleagues and brutally manhandled Mr. Owai and all other teachers, especially the male teachers of the school.
 Gun butts were repeatedly used on Mr. Owai and other male teachers including marching on them, seriously injuring them and causing dislocation on some of their joints.


We learnt that phones of all teachers present were forcefully taken from them, with one of the operatives arrogantly shouting, “Let us see what you people will use as evidence against us, you bloody civilians”.

Our source further disclosed that apart from collecting handsets from the teachers and smashing the eye glasses of some of them, a binocular belonging to a Fine Arts teacher, his phone and eye glasses were equally forcefully taken away by DSS operatives.
Some persons who witnessed the savage brutality and who spoke under anonymity called on the DSS authority, the Federal and Cross River Governments to bring all those involved in the open display of shame by the DSS operatives to book to serve as deterrent to others, while calling on the school authority to drag the power drunken DSS operatives to court.
Another wondered rhetorically, “If all of us are gun tottering security men of any kind, who will be the teacher among others, and if a spoiled brat of a security officer is beyond correction in any institution outside the home, the parents should provide the education within the walls of their home where no one will break their spoiled egg.”
 Another witness of this ugly incident observed that "brutality and forceful intimidation by law enforcement agencies are on the increase and urged all concerned Nigerians to speak out". No official reaction has been made by the authorities of DSS in the state.
